Cyr Custom Guitars has developed a new series of hand-crafted acoustic instruments. We started with the building of five prototype instruments--two 6-string dreadnaught-style guitars, a 4-string acoustic bass guitar, a 5-string acoustic bass guitar, and a 12-string jumbo acoustic guitar. These instruments are complete now, and I am pleased with the results. We recently finished construction on a hybrid walnut-bodied dreadnaught, and we have an Indian rosewood dreadnaught and a quilted-mahogany jumbo 12-string under construction.

Shown here is the Dreadnaught 6-string acoustic guitar that I completed in 2005. The basic design is based on the traditional Martin D-28 model guitar, with some variations. The prototype guitar's features include (note that some of these features are extra-cost items):

  • Genuine mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard
  • 25.4" scale with the 14th fret at the neck/body joint
  • Indian rosewood headstock overlay with inlaid MOP and Paua logo
  • Indian rosewood back and sides
  • Mother-of-pearl diamond inlay position markers & white side marker dots
  • Body is 20" long by 15-3/4" wide by 4-7/8" deep
  • Sitka spruce top with herringbone purfling
  • Curly maple body bindings
  • Rosewood bridge with mother-of-pearl diamond inlays
  • Bolt-on neck attachment
  • K&K Sound Pure Western passive pickup system
  • Grover vintage style butterbean tuners with gold finish

There are two body styles available at this time: Dreadnaught and Jumbo.

Shown here is the 4-string acoustic bass guitar that I just completed. The basic design is a single-cutaway with a 16-1/2" wide jumbo style body. The internal bracing is based on the Martin cross-brace pattern used in the D-28 model guitar. The prototype shown here was built with a shallower body typical of jumbo style guitars, but we can also build it deeper to get better acoustic voicing on the lower notes at no extra charge. It is also available in 4 and 5-string versions, fretted or fretless.

Standard specifications:

  • African mahogany neck with Indian rosewood fingerboard
  • 34" scale, with the 17th fret at the neck/body joint
