Bass is Steve's primary instrument, and he loves to build them as well. We can build you a customized bass with the type of neck, body, pickup configuration, pickguard, and hardware that you want--the idea is to provide you with a bass with exactly the look and the playing characteristics that you want.

Here are the choices:

Bodies: Jazz, Precision, or Oakhurst style, as well as custom handcrafted bodies in just about any shape or wood you can think of. The prices will vary, depending on the color and finish and the type of wood you want. We can do figured wood tops, neck-thru construction, and hollowed bodies.
Necks: I build hand-crafted necks in a variety of styles with flat or tilt-back headstocks. These necks can be one-piece, or made up of multiple pieces of wood. Building a neck from multiple pieces of quarter-sawn wood makes for a stronger and more stable neck.
Pickups:Configurations: Limited only by your budget and imagination. Active or passive, whatever you want! My finest instruments feature custom made-to-order pickups made by Kent Armstrong in his shop in Vermont.
Pickguards: We can get anything you want. We use un-branded aftermarket pickguards and made-to-order pickguards from Warmoth. Most often the aftermarket pickguards are three layer white, black or tortoise, or multi-layer pearloid in white or dark grey. The Warmoth pickguards are available in all of the traditional solid colors, laminated solid colors, and 4-layer laminated pearloid, tortoise shell, and Silver Blue Shell.
Hardware: Normally we use aftermarket bridges and tuners--these are of excellent quality. If you want Schaller, Gotoh, or other brand-name tuners, we can get those too! Much of this hardware comes from WD Music, Allparts, and Hipshot.

Prices are normally in the range of $900 to $1600, depending on the options you choose. And don't forget to check out the Oakhurst guitars and basses, a unique series of instruments designed and built by Cyr Custom Guitars.
