These bodies are made in the Cyr Custom Guitars shop to order. Below are descriptions of some of the models we offer, but keep in mind that Cyr Guitars specializes in custom built instruments made to the customer's specifications, and the same philosophy of making exactly what the customer wants applies here. It is our goal to provide top quality hand-made bodies and necks for the the best prices available.

Customer Pictures

These bodies are handmade in my shop from two-piece alder or swamp ash blanks. They are based on drawings of the 60's vintage Jazz Bass. They are sanded to 220-grit, but I recommend that you go over them with 220-grit and 320-grit sandpaper before finishing. The body shown is routed for standard-size Jazz style pickups, but I will rout your body for other pickups.

Specifications:

  • Two-piece solid alder
  • No finish - sanded to 220-grit
  • Neck pocket is 3-7/8" long by 2-1/2 inches wide by 11/16" deep
  • The body is 1-5/8" thick
  • All passages for wiring already drilled
  • Body edges rounded with a 1/4" radius roundover bit
  • Forearm and belly contours
  • The neck pickup location on the body shown in the pictures is based on the position of the pickup cutout in an Allparts pickguard

Base price is $120. There are upcharges for options as shown below:

  • Your choice of pickup routings for two pickups ($15 extra if you want three!)
  • I can round off the heel and drill for 4 or 6 mounting screw ferrules (15mm diameter) for $25 extra
  • Battery box rout is $30, battery box included
  • Rear control cavity is $30, with a B/W/B cover included
  • 3/8" or 1/2" radius body edges available
  • Custom body shapes from $25 to $50 depending on complexity and amount of wood required

These are custom bodies made to order. These are made according to the 1960's pre-CBS design. The body we make for you will be sanded to 220-grit, but I recommend that you go over them with 220-grit and 320-grit sandpaper before finishing. The bodies shown illustrate a couple of bodies I've worked on recently. I call them fancy because I make these with a laminated book matched top between 1/4" and 1/2" thick of figured wood.

These are custom bodies made to order. Once you place the order, I will make up the body to your specifications, and I should be able to ship your body within Eight to Twelve weeks after you place the order. I do not have bodies in stock - these are only made up AFTER you make the purchase through Ebay.

  • Three-piece solid alder, walnut ($30 upcharge), or swamp ash ($50 upcharge)

  • The body is normally 1-5/8" thick, but I can do other thicknesses as well

  • The laminated top can be just about any exotic wood you want - the price will depend on what you choose and how thick it is (1/4" is cheaper than 1/2")

  • Layer of contrasting wood between the body and laminated top is $60 for maple or walnut 1/8" thick

Examples:

Alder Jazz Bass body with a 1/2" quilted and spalted maple top. The body still needs to be trimmed around the edges, the edges rounded to 3/8" radius, and the pickup and control cavities to be routed:

This is an Oakhurst model 4-string bass body in Black Swamp Ash with a curly maple 5/16" top and P/J pickup routs:

This is a 60's Jazz Bass body in Bastogne (hybrid) walnut with a layer of curly maple and a curly Claro Walnut top. It has standard J/J pickup routs and a rear control cavity:

Standard 20/21 Fret and Custom Deluxe 22 fret

These bodies are handmade in my shop from two-piece alder or swamp ash blanks. They can be based on '54 or 60's Presicion bass designs. They are sanded to 220-grit, but I recommend that you go over them with 220-grit and 320-grit sandpaper before finishing. The body shown is routed for standard-size Jazz style pickups, but I will rout your body for other pickups.

Standard Bass Necks

These necks are handmade from the best quality hard rock maple and fingerboard woods available. The neck will be sanded to 220-grit, but I recommend that you go over it with 220-grit and 320-grit sandpaper before finishing. The fingerboard will be sanded to 600-grit before fret installation.

Both pictured necks are curly hard maple with Indian rosewood fingerboards.

  • Top: 21-fret neck with a fingerboard extension, truss rod adjustable at the heel, paua abalone position markers, 1-7/16 wide at the nut
  • Bottom: 20 frets with white plastic binding, white MOP position markers, with a zero fret installed

Specifications:

  • One-piece flat sawn hard rock (sugar) maple neck blank
  • Indian rosewood or plain maple fingerboard
  • No finish - sanded to 220-grit
  • Neck heel width is 2-1/2"
  • Nut width is 1-1/2 or 1-5/8" (your choice)
  • Neck back profile is slim C .800" thick at the 1st fret, .850" at the 12th fret
  • Fingerboard radius 7-1/4", 9-1/2", 12", 14", or 16" (your choice)
  • Fingerboard is inlaid with 1/4" position markers, your choice of:
    • Black plastic
    • White mother of pearl
    • Black plastic
  • Headstock shape is Cyr Guitars design as shown above
  • Your choice of medium jumbo or jumbo frets
  • Your choice of 21 frets or 22 frets with fingerboard extension
  • 3/32" side marker dots
  • 34 inch scale

CAUTION: 33-inch scales, 35-inch scales, and 24-fret necks ONLY work with bodies designed for them. They will not work with Fender-style bodies!

These are custom necks made to order. Once you place the order, I will make up the neck to your specifications, and I should be able to ship your neck within three months after you place the order. I do not have necks in stock - these are only made up AFTER you make the purchase.

The first neck shown on the left is a standard neck with a curly maple upgrade. The price for this neck is $190. The second neck has the curly maple and fingerboard binding upgrades - the price is $270.

Additional note: these necks are unfinished, and do not come with any graphics or decals on the headstock.

Deluxe Bass Necks

These necks are handmade in my shop from the best quality hard rock maple and fingerboard woods available. The neck will be sanded to 220-grit, but I recommend that you go over it with 220-grit and 320-grit sandpaper before finishing. The fingerboard will be sanded to 600-grit before fret installation.

  • Base price is for 4-string version
  • One-piece quarter-sawn hard rock (sugar) maple laminated neck blank with walnut center stripe
  • Indian rosewood or plain maple fingerboard
  • No finish - sanded to 220-grit
  • Neck heel width is 2-1/2"
  • Nut width is 1-1/2 to 1-11/16" depending on your needs
  • Neck back profile is slim C .840" thick at the 1st fret, .940" at the 12th fret
  • Fingerboard radius 9.5", 12" or 16" (your choice)
  • Fingerboard is inlaid with 1/4" position markers, your choice of:
    • Black plastic
    • White plastic
    • White mother of pearl
  • Headstock shape is Cyr Guitars design as shown with a 2 x 2 or 3 x 2 tuning machine arrangement
  • The headstock tilts back approximately 12 degrees
  • Tuning machine holes sizes 11/16" or 9/16"
  • Your choice of medium jumbo or jumbo frets
  • Your choice of 23 frets or 24 frets with fingerboard extension
  • A 21-fret version with with fingerboard extension is available - no extra cost
  • 2mm side marker dots
  • 34 inch scale

A Custom Bass body in African Mahogany based on the Jaguar Guitar design for Michael A, with an Oakhurst 24-fret neck:

A custom telecaster body and matching neck made for Mark Hickler in Tempe AZ. This was a guitar kit with a twist - Mark sent me the body blank with the top already glued on, and I turned that into the body, then made a neck to go with it. All of this was in exchange for turning the banjo resonator and making me another walnut banjo rim.
